About Shimla.com

An independent guide to the Queen of the Hills, written for travellers who want to understand what they are seeing.

Shimla.com exists because Shimla deserves more than a selfie on the Ridge and a traffic jam on the way home. It is an independent travel guide covering the town, the hills around it and the roads beyond — written to be genuinely useful before you go and while you are there.

What we cover

  • The Ridge, the Mall, the churches, temples and colonial buildings — with history and practical detail.
  • Which tours are worth booking, ranked honestly and updated as ratings change.
  • How to reach Shimla by road, rail, toy train and air, and how to get around.
  • Where to stay, in town and in the forest resorts around it.
  • When to come — the summer rush, the monsoon, the clear autumn and the snow.

How we research

Opening arrangements, journey times and seasonal information are checked against official sources, operators and booking platforms, and reviewed regularly. Tour ratings and review counts come directly from GetYourGuide. Where a figure moves around — fares, tickets, seasonal hours — we give a range or say so, rather than pretending to a precision that does not exist.

Mountain roads and railways are affected by weather. We describe conditions as accurately as we can and always recommend checking locally, especially in the monsoon and after snowfall.

How the site is funded

We are a GetYourGuide affiliate partner and a Trip.com partner. If you book a tour or a room through a link on this site, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. That is the only way this guide is funded — there is no advertising, no sponsored placement and no paid inclusion in any ranking. Read the full affiliate disclosure.

Timings change, prices move and hotels change hands. If something here is out of date or wrong, please tell us — we would rather fix it than defend it. Write to us via the contact page.
